<>External Consultant.  Provides expert advice on impact of spills on the marine eco-system, oil spill prevention, response and clean up, impact of port development, dredging on marine environments, contract research.

Key Experience

Philip is a Chartered Chemist and aquatic ecologist with over 25 years’ experience in ecological surveys and assessment of the impacts of contaminants (metals and organics) on water, sediments invertebrates and fish.  Key areas of experience are:

  • Environmental Impact Assessments.
  • Chemical analysis of waters, sediments and biota.
  • Expert Witness on water pollution, fish kills and related issues.
  • Management of pollution affecting rivers, estuaries and coastal waters. Compliance audits.
  • Monitoring the impacts of discharges, engineering works & dredging on the aquatic environment.
  • Ecological and chemical surveys of fresh, estuarine and marine waters.
  • Assessing ecological and chemical aspects of pollution.
  • Conservation assessment of aquatic habitats.
  • Oil spill sensitivity mapping and contingency planning.

Summary of Previous Professional Activities

1982-present Launched Aquatic Environmental Consultants in 1982 (now Aquatonics Ltd) to provide industry, engineering consultancies and regulatory organisations with advice on monitoring and predicting the effects of discharges, spills and engineering works on aquatic ecosystems. Now an established freelance environmental consultant.
 
Philip has travelled widely in Africa (Senegal, Gambia, Tunisia, Zanzibar and Kenya) and has worked in Oman, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bermuda, Madagascar, India, Hong Kong, Norway and Ireland. Details are provided in the list of contracts.
