Current Position at CWA

Mike has over 30 years experience in the minerals and metals industries. He joined CWA in 1993 to establish and manage the CWA Minerals Department. Mr Anthony has a broad expertise of the behaviour of minerals and metallic materials gained at senior operating and technical positions with major international mining companies. He is responsible for investigations of incidents concerning the processing, storage, transportation and use of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, coal and industrial minerals, quality control, loss prevention, supervision of laboratory testing, advice on remediation operations and commercial contract disputes..

1992-1993
St Barbara Consultancy Services

Prior to joining CWA, Mr Anthony was Principal of St Barbara Consultancy Services, a company specialising in the supply of technical services to the materials and metals industries.  Consultancy services were provided to state organisations and public companies worldwide, and clients included UK and EC Government departments, BP and the American Cyanamid Corporation.


1989-1992
Leeds Mineral Services Group Ltd

Mike was Chief Executive of the Leeds Group, which provided a comprehensive range of technical, engineering, environmental and commercial services to the international minerals industry.  Contracts were undertaken in over 30 countries with a client list of many major mining companies including RTZ, Billiton, Phelps Dodge, BP and Western Mining.


1986-1989 Base Metal Synergy Associates Ltd

The Cookson Group acquired Base Metal Synergy Associates in 1986, and reorganised the company to assist in the technical auditing and strategic development of Cookson metals and materials activities.  Mike was Managing Consultant of BMSA between 1986 and 1989 and worked closely with group companies, central R&D and head office, to improve and develop existing operations and seek new acquisitions.


1985-1986
Murex Ltd

SKW expanded its activities in Europe with the acquisition of three UK special metal and chemical producers, of which Murex Ltd was the largest.  Mike was Deputy Managing Director between 1985-86, with the tasks of strengthening the company's position in manufacturing quality, developing new products, and improving competitiveness and marketing, together with formulating future company strategy.


1981-1985 British Petroleum

BP acquired the Selection Trust and Kennecott companies in 1981 and formed an international minerals division.  As Head of Research and Development, Mike’s job was to develop and direct R&D activities which catered for the requirements of the company internationally, including total technical and environmental services support and new project development.  The programme ran at £10m pa and allowed the successful commencement of various new operations.


1975-1981
BOC

BOC diversified into mineral activities in the 1960's and established a materials division of the group.  Mr Anthony's responsibilities as Head of Technical Services from 1975-81 were to consolidate and improve the technical and engineering capabilities of group companies including new product introduction.  Previous responsibilities had included production management for the group.


1969-1975 Roan Selection Trust

RST operated a number of major mines on the Zambian Copper Belt.  Between 1969-75 Mike’s responsibility at RST as plant superintendent was for the management of the copper/cobalt complex at Chambishi mine, producing metal to the value of £100m pa.
